I have spent my life putting myself in places I probably should not be, just to see what I can see.
For over forty years, the ocean has been my subject, my collaborator, and the thing that taught me my biggest lessons. I grew up on the coast of Western Australia, learned to read waves before I could read a room, and spent two decades as a professional bodyboarder, eventually reaching world number one in my category of Dropknee.
I began my journey amongst waves at Huzzas. I have been held under, dragged across reef, and survived situations that should have ended differently. The ocean gave me everything. I have the respect and understanding of how fast it can take it all away.
When I picked up a camera, the transition felt natural. I had already spent years positioning myself in the most extreme parts of a wave — the difference was that now I was there to document it. These moments are measured in fractions of a second. The athletic career gave me the ocean knowledge. An architecture degree taught me a unique creative process and approach. I am drawn to moments that are impossible to stage, impossible to repeat, and almost impossible to witness.
